Assess and train your drivers. Can you afford not to?
As a professional driver training company we can offer help and advice about keeping records of driver’s assessments for Health and Safety obligations, advice about affordable (from 3p per day) online fleet management.
ALL staff are adequately trained and assessed independently; not just to fulfil Health and Safety obligations, but to have a positive impact on your business.
We also believe in working with you to keep down time to a minimum when assessing and training your staff.
Can you really afford not assess, train and offer your staff a fully funded customer service apprentice?
At Driving Up Your Street we like to build up strong relationships with our customers, work together to get the best from everyone and to ensure your drivers are not damaging your public image; and so from January 2012 we can also offer your drivers a fully funded customer service course.
This at the very least will keep customer service at the forefront of your driver’s minds.
This funded course is a work based vocational apprenticeship and is available to anybody, any age, working 16hrs or more and would benefit any team member in contact with your customers either face to face or over the phone.
This is not just for your drivers.
This course will take 5-6 months to complete and with regular visits from us will make us a familiar face amongst your team.
We also provide simple affordable road risk assessments for company car drivers at
mutually convenient times at little cost.
This road risk assessment could include delivery van drivers, company
car drivers and even occasional drivers who are using their own vehicle.
This can also be easily integrated into your recruitment and selection process
or your regular employee appraisals.
Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 your responsibilities under current health and safety law extend to driving at work and so;
If you have over 5 employees you must record your risk assessment.
If you have fewer than 5 employees there is no need to record but you still have to conduct a risk assessment.
The risk for drivers of an on-the-road work related accident is high. It is
estimated that 20 fatalities and 250 serious injuries a week involve somebody
who is at work at the time.
These company driver assessments take 1.5hrs and include licence and eyesight
check, vehicle safety checks, journey planning, Highway Code and in-car driving assessment.
For each candidate, a full written report and risk assessment will be completed along with any recommendations.
The serious stuff you need to know
"The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007"
CMCHA came into force on the 6th of April 2008. Under this act the company vehicle is a place of work and is considered to be an extension of the corporate headquarters. This places an extra legal duty of care on Company Directors and their Managers.
"The Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008"
The Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008 came in to effect on the 16th January 2009 which amends the sentencing provisions contained in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Unlike the Corporate Manslaughter Act; a breach of health and safety rules will not have to result in a death. If company directors or fleet managers fail to prove that they have a road risk policy in place with adequate documental evidence, they can face a fine of up to £20,000 or risk a two-year prison sentence if one of their employees is involved in an accident where a breach of Health & Safety occurs.
